Legend of Bai Chay
The term Bai Chay translates to "burnt area" or "burned beach" (Bãi meaning beach or area and Cháy meaning fire or burned). The origins of the name Bai Chay are steeped in captivating legend. One tale recounts how, during an invasion by Mongolian forces aiming to seize control of Halong Bay, Vietnamese soldiers ignited the ships of the invaders. As the flames raged, a fierce wind swept through, intensifying the blaze, leading to the devastation of the entire western side of Cua Luc.
