Snorkeling and scuba diving are must-do activities in Halong Bay if you are an underwater lover. Favorable conditions like clean, jade-greed waters, gentle waves, and a diverse marine ecosystem make Halong Bay a great dive destination.

Things to Know About Snorkeling and Scuba Diving in Halong Bay

Whether you are a novice or a seasoned snorkeling aficionado, this article will guide you to the premier snorkeling and scuba diving locations in Halong Bay, highlight the best times to enjoy these activities, and provide helpful tips.

Why?

  • Untouched beauty: Unlike other well-known snorkeling destinations across Vietnam, Halong Bay predominantly maintains its unspoiled marine environment. The coral reefs are mostly found around pristine islands and limestone karsts, allowing you to admire stunning scenery without the distraction of litter or pollution.
  • Impressive coral reefs: Halong Bay is home to a rich diversity of vibrant coral reefs, primarily located near Lan Ha Bay, Trai Cave, Van Gio Island, Cat Ba Island, and Cong Do Island. Recent studies have identified 193 coral species in the waters around Cat Ba Island, including 166 hard coral species and 27 soft and horn coral species.
  • Diverse underwater ecosystem and shallow waters: The stunning coral reefs of Halong Bay support a variety of marine life, including holothurians, starfish, crustaceans, and numerous fish species. Due to the shallow waters and concentration of coral, you can capture striking photos of marine life without needing to dive deep.
