The cave is located on Bo Hon Island, alongside another well-known Halong cave, Trinh Nu Cave. Visitors arriving by boat must navigate a flight of 50 stairs to reach the entrance, situated approximately 25 meters above sea level. Sung Sot Cave, also known as Surprise Cave, is made up of two distinct chambers; the first chamber, referred to as the “Waiting Room,” is expansive and adorned with stalagmites and stalactites, illuminated by vibrant multicolored lights that enhance its natural beauty.

To access the second chamber, visitors must traverse a narrow passageway. This chamber, also known as the “Serene Castle,” boasts a grand atmosphere with a soaring ceiling and numerous fascinating rock formations, which locals liken to various animal shapes.
Legend of Sung Sot Cave
One notable rock formation resembles a horse holding a sword and is linked to the legend of Thanh Giong (God Gióng). According to folklore, Thanh Giong defended the local inhabitants by vanquishing aggressors, demons, and evil spirits. Upon completing his mission, he ascended to the heavens, leaving behind a stone horse and sword to safeguard the area from future threats.
At the exit of the grotto, there is a tranquil area known as the “Royal Garden,” featuring a serene pond and beautiful banyan trees. Visitors may be fortunate enough to spot monkeys foraging for fruit, offering excellent photo opportunities!
