A Guide to The "Dark and Light" Cave Halong bay
Only accessible by boat or kayak, Dark & Light Cave is one of the least visited but most interesting of all the caves to be found in Halong Bay.

Location
Situated on the edge of Halong Bay, Dark & Light Cave is located in Lan Ha Bay. This lesser-known gem is only a few kilometers from the more touristed caves and is in closer proximity to Cat Ba National Park. Depending on your starting point, the journey may take an hour or more, but once you arrive, the stunning landscape of white limestone karsts and emerald green waters enveloping the caves ensures that your visit will be memorable.

Two Caves in One
The cave complex is named Dark & Light Cave due to its configuration of two distinct caves. Dark Cave stretches 100 meters and is notably devoid of natural or artificial light, so bringing a flashlight is crucial! In contrast, Light Cave is much shorter and features abundant natural light filtering through the rock’s fissures, creating an ethereal ambiance reminiscent of a cathedral crafted by nature itself. While Light Cave is always accessible, Dark Cave can sometimes be obscured by tidal waters.
As you traverse through the caves, you will be greeted by a breathtaking sea valley surrounded by towering mountains. This is an ideal moment to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings, ensuring your journey is unforgettable.
Historically, fortunate explorers have discovered fossils within the caves, serving as a testament to the ancient human presence in this region. The surrounding waters teem with marine life, and as you paddle through the caves in a kayak, you will likely encounter various native fish species typical of this part of the East Sea.
